D800 Samples

Here are a couple samples from Nikon’s new 36MP camera, The D800. I don’t typically review cameras and there is nothing too scientific here. Just a couple test shots doing what I typically do. I will say that after all the reading and concern about file size etc, things work pretty much the same in my workflow. I did bump the settings down from 14-bit to 12-bit and chose some lossless compression to bring the file size down somewhat. I upgraded to Lightroom 4 so I could import the RAW files. I read a lot about the new LR4 crawling in general and specifically with the new Nikon files. My experience: not so much. It all worked fine. Are the files huge???, yep, do they take a little longer to load and export???, sure do,,,,but it’s not too bad. I’ll still be doing the bulk of my work the D3 I think, so I won’t be coming home with hundreds or thousands of files from this camera. It’s impressive and more so now that I know I could just integrate it into my normal workflow without any problems because of the huge file size and Lightroom limitations. The images processed just fine in the camera, but some faster and bigger cards are now in order,,,as are some bigger hard drives down the line. Great stuff though!

Boss on the Ridge…

Just when you thought you knew a lot about your own neighborhood….and the Boss for that matter, I find out that Springsteen’s first headlining gig in Philadelphia took place a couple blocks from our house and place of business. The Boss played the now demolished Roxy Theater on Ridge Ave in Roxborough in June of 1973. The photo above was taken by Art Reilly, his lighting guy… and some of his work can be seen here.  The Roxy Theater came down in 1981 and there is now a Dunkin’ Donuts in it’s place on Ridge & Leverington Ave… a Dunkin’ Donuts that I have regularly frequented over the last several years. Yeah, go figure…
